
Utah's Wildlife & Rivers Festival
Plein Aire Art Competition
June 9-11, 2005
Contest Description: The Plein Aire Art Competition is part of the annual Utah's Wildlife & Rivers Festival. Artists compete by painting, drawing or sketching an out-of-doors or plein aire artwork during a short, set period of time and then return it by the deadline for judging. For this event, there will be an “Open Division” and several youth divisions. Contestants must register and certify their blank art supports on Thursday, June 9th and submit their artwork by 10 am on Saturday, June 11th. Judges will award cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each division and may give honorable mentions. The artwork will be on display and available for silent auction (except during judging) at the Main Festival Site in Vernal on Saturday, June 11th. Winning entries will be announced during the awards ceremony at the Festival's Main Stage on Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 pm.

Contest Rules
1 Contestants need to both register and certify their art supports for the competition. They may pre-register or register at the time of the event.

Contestants may present one or two blank art supports (canvas, masonite, paper, artboard, etc) for certification. All supports must be certified on June 9th at DigiPix Portrait Studio at 50 East Main between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm in order to qualify for the competition. Artists may leave to begin as soon as their support(s) are certified.

Artwork should reflect the spirit of the Utah's Wildlife and Rivers Festival or the theme for the Flaming Gorge – Uintas National Scenic Byway: Wildlife through the Ages. It must be completed in the confines of Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah Counties of Utah or within the boundaries of the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and Colorado to qualify for the event.

Artwork should be returned by the original artist by Saturday, June 11, from 8-10 am at the Main Festival Site, 235 East Main Street (Hwy 40). An artist may enter only one entry per Division in this contest. The artist must choose which piece he/she will submit.

Youths may enter the "Open" Division if they pay the entrance fee at registration. There are no age limit restrictions to enter the Open Division. Youth divisions are based on the grade the artist is currently attending or will be entering when school is next in session. Youth divisions are: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

The artist retains the artwork and its copyright for all entries submitted, but gives permission to the Festival Committee to use an image of the work for promotional purposes for up to three years unless otherwise negotiated between the artist and the Festival Committee.

Obscene, provocative, or otherwise prurient content will not be considered. Artwork containing nudity will not be considered. We retain sole discretion as to what constitutes unsuitable content.

The selection decisions of the judge(s) are final.

Competitors understand that Festival related activities may result in an accident or injury and hereby agree to assume all liability for their safety and the safety of their minor children who may be competing in or attending the event. It is further agreed to absolve all Wildlife Festival Committee members and the judges from any and all responsibility should an accident, injury or theft occur to an individual or their artwork and property. All federal, state, and local laws apply.
