Utah's Wildlife & Rivers Festival
The Utah Wildlife and Rivers Festival celebrates the unique and divers wildlife, spectacular geology and rugged beauty of Northeastern Utah and its rivers.
We are sorry to announce the Utah’s Wildlife & Rivers Festival has been cancelled for this year due to a number of unforeseen circumstances. We have left the information about last year’s Festival on the screen as it provides some good information on the Festival and surrounding area. For example: the “Scenic Byway” button introduces visitors to “Wildlife Through The Ages” the theme for the Flaming Gorge – Uintas National Scenic Byway. It contains information about the Byway (Hwy 191/44) and places of interest. If you would like us to try and pull the Festival together in future years, please send us an email. Also please indicate which events you would be most interested in attending.
The second annual Utah's Wildlife and River Festival (UWRF) offers a variety of activities centered on the "Wildlife through the Ages" scenic drive (Flaming Gorge- Uintas National Scenic Byway). The events highlight some of the most colorful and interesting landscapes in Utah plus the wildlife, scenery and fossil resources found along the renowned Scenic Byway and surrounding canyons of the Green and Yampa rivers. Activities are designed for children and adults alike.
The Festival hosts two artist competitions (the UWRF Plein Aire Art Competition and the UWRF Digital Photo Competition) and Eastern Utah’s only Duck Race. Public exhibitions; cash, river trips and other prizes; and children's divisions make these events exciting and fun. Want to improve your artistic skills? Check out our workshops for artists and photographers.
Among the unique opportunities to observe and learn about area wildlife and rivers are the osprey watch, bighorn sheep tour, and 100-birds-in-a-day challenge. Whitewater river trips, hikes and shorter birding trips are also available.
Interested in dinosaurs and other fossils? Join park rangers from the Dinosaur National Monument and the Utah Fieldhouse of Natural History for a behind-the-scenes tour and hands-on activities. Visitors can learn about dinosaurs, fossils, wildlife, endangered fish and the canyons of the Green and Yampa rivers.
Other activities focus on the man-made features of the area such as Flaming Gorge dam and Native American rock art. There's something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
In the afternoon and evening, join other participants as they return from their adventures and enjoy the entertainment, displays and activities provided at the main staging area. Like to draw? We’ve got lots of sidewalks and we supply the chalk. Children and their parents alike will find no shortage of things to do.
