Contest Description
The Uinta Mountain Digital Shootout is part of the annual Utah's Wildlife and Rivers Festival. Contestants must register and certify their digital camera on Thursday, June 10th and then submit their photos directly from their camera or digital card by 7 p.m. on Friday, June 11th. A panel of volunteer judges independently selects photos from those submitted for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each Division. Photos (in a digital slide show) will be displayed at two locations throughout the Festival on Saturday, June 12th, while the winners will be announced and receive their awards at a reception on Sunday afternoon, June 13th.
There will be four Divisions: Open, and three Youths Grades: 9 to 12, 6 to 8 and K to 5. There is a $35 registration fee for the Open Division. The Youth Divisions are free. Youths may enter the Open Division if they pay the $35 registration fee.
Contest Rules
- Only photographs produced with a digital camera will be considered.
- All photographs must be taken within the boundaries of Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah Counties of Utah or within the boundaries of the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and Colorado during the event.
- All cameras must be certified on June 10th at the Red Canyon Lodge, at Flaming Gorge, or at the new Utah Fieldhouse of Natural History Museum, 496 E. Main St., in Vernal, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. in order to qualify for the competition.
- The original, unmodified digital camera image must be submitted with your entry. This is accomplished by bringing your camera or card directly to DigiPix Portrait Studios, 50 West Main Street (Hwy. 40) in Vernal. This requirement applies to all divisions. The original digital camera image must contain valid, unmodified EXIF data. EXIF data is information that the camera embeds in the original file, which our system must be able to read to validate your contest entry.
- Photographs will be accepted only from the original photographer.
- The Photographer retains the copyright for all photos submitted, but gives permission to the Festival Committee to use images submitted for promotional purposes for up to three years unless negotiated between the Photographer and The Festival Committee.
- All photos must be taken between June 10th and June 11th, 2004.
- Digital camera add-on lenses, filters, and scopes are permitted without restriction.
- There are no age limit restrictions.
- Photos should be taken at the highest resolution your camera will support.
- A photographer may enter only one photo per Division in this contest. Youths may enter the "Open" Division if they pay the entrance fee. The photographer must choose which photo he/she will submit. Youth Divisions are based on the grade the photographer is currently attending or will be entering when school is next in session.
- Professional Photographers: anyone who has made over $10,000 in photography, must enter the Open Division. Anyone who feels they are capable of taking high-quality photos may enter this Division regardless of their age, earnings or lack of earnings.
- Obscene, provocative, or otherwise prurient content will not be considered. Photographs containing nudity will not be considered. We retain sole discretion as to what constitutes unsuitable content.
- The selection decisions of the judges are final.
- System malfunctions, delays, and other technical problems can happen and DigiPix Portrait Studios and the Wildlife Festival Committee are not responsible in the event something like this occurs.
- All federal, state, and local laws apply.
